Perception First: Gestalt Principles in Interfaces

Before we read a single word, we've already parsed the page. Gestalt principles describe that pre-conscious grouping: things close together belong together, similar things are the same kind of thing.
Layout mistakes are Gestalt mistakes
Most layout mistakes are Gestalt mistakes. Two unrelated buttons sitting closer than the field they act on, or a card border that groups content that should feel separate — the eye groups before the mind asks why.
Check the gaps first
The fix is almost always spacing. Proximity is the cheapest grouping tool in design, and it works instantly. When a layout feels wrong but every element is "correct", check the gaps first.
